Google Meet update allows for meetings with up to 500 participants

Google will allow more participants to join meetings when using the video conference software as part of a new update now launching to Google fulfilling.

In new blog posts, the search giant reveals that up to 500 participants will be able to make video calls at the same time to make it easier to connect and collaborate with colleagues, clients and customers.

However, there was a catch. To host a meeting with up to 500 participants, you must be a Google Workspace Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus or Education Plus because this feature is not available for users of the company’s Essentials, Starter or Workspace Standard Plans.

If 500 participants are not enough for your organization, you can activate streaming directly on Google Meet, which will allow up to 100,000 viewers to watch at once.

Large-scale video meetings

With more people working from home than before, Google, Microsoft, Zoom and other video conference software makers have continued to increase the number of participants who are permitted in video calls.

For example, back in August, Microsoft announced that it would increase the number of participants in the Microsoft team meeting for US government organizations for 25,000 people on the desktop while a total of 1,000 people can be in a normal meeting using service.

However, users need to have a pro or business subscription and buy a large addition of meetings that start with $ 50 per month to have 1,000 participants. Users on the company’s plan even though they can host up to 500 participants without buying an add-on while the business plan can have up to 300 participants.

Now video conferencing here to stay, we might see the three companies increasing the number of participants in their meetings mainly because organizations have begun to implement hybrid work policies with several employees working in the office.
