LA’s iconic Staples Center will become the Crypto.com Arena
Cryptocurrency will immediately avoid Los Angeles, at least for a while. AEG has signed a 20-year rights agreement that will rename the center of Staples La to Arena Crypto.com. Yes, Clippers, Lakers, King and Sparks will all play in a building called after the Crypto platform – more thought forward than office supplies, but it’s still a bit strange in 2021. The agreement will make Crypto.com official Cryptocurrency partners for the Lakers and Kings also.
You will see internal signage and some other branding when the Lakers play Brooklyn Nets on Christmas Day, although the Arena operator will not fully change external signs until June 2022. You will also see “appointment” on other properties, as it is Live and Microsoft Theater, and there will be a Crypto.com experience at the entrance, Concourse Main, and La Live Campus.
Head of AEG and Beckerman marked an agreement as a focus on “future,” both for the overall innovation and society. It was rather ironic when Cryptocurrency has been accused of hurting the environment, but Crypto.com has promised to be a negative carbon at the end of 2022 (if only by offset).
The 20-year deal explains this not only temporary marketing action. Even so, this is a bet for AEG and Crypto.com. They bet that Cryptocurrency is here to stay, and that Crypto.com will play an important role in the long run. Both have different possibilities when mainstream companies such as AMC and Twitter are exploring digital money use, but many can change within two decades.
